The divorce needed isn't between the sibling states. We need to divorce ourselves from this Idiocracy our federal government has become.

Why there aren't armies of thousands of people with pitch forks, torches, and yes even rifles and more, marching toward the miasmic swamp of DC to destroy the hydra of corruption in its lair, boggles my mind.

PS, kudos on the improved health and quality of tasty protein production. Neither are easy.

I think most of those who say "divorce" are not thinking of a far right set of states and a far left set of states. Most people (surely those in this Substack) would, like you, have nowhere to go.

Rather, I believe people believe after the divorce there would be two ways of dealing with our natural heterogeneity. One ("blue") would have the government dictate what that lifestyle would be -- just like we saw them try to do during the plandemic. The other ("red") would largely be wedded (got that...?) to letting individuals call their own shots within some bounds that would be fairly agreeable to all.

Anyone could "live" in either place, but many would naturally migrate to either the one that provided safetyism for its own sake or the one that provided independence for its own sake. As others have noted, we are already seeing this in the stark outmigrations from Illinois, New York, California to Florida, Texas, Tennessee. And in most cases, despite fears, in general those who wish to leave despotism and seek independence have been unable/unwilling to bring such despotism/wokeism/whatever with them. Thus the flip of Florida from bluish-purple to bright red, while still containing large number of traditionally left folks who voted for DeSantis because he was happy to let them live and let live as long as they did not foist themselves on the rest of us -- sort of the hallmark of the "new red" states.

This is a natural process and is happening organically. The reason "divorce" comes up is that the blue guys end up losing populace which means money, and extorting money from you is their whole purpose in life. (Many of those folks are permanently irritated that anyone gets to keep any money since they know much better than you what should be done with it.) So they will come with a heavier and heavier hand to try to blunt/change/destroy the Constitutional federalism that was designed to do exactly this.

It would not surprise me if this did not get reasonably noxious at some point. Wishing that everyone would get along did not do much good for Rodney King and will not for you, either. Whether those who believe it is their divine right to control everything about you can be persuaded to stand down or whether they push this to a different end point is really up to them. But Newsome today (with a $100B deficit) sounds every bit as idiotic as he ever has. And the NY folks are even more brainless. So it seems hard to envision how that gap closes.

So hope for rescuing the marriage remains high as it does in most such situations. However, as in actual real life, that hope is only useful about half the time. Those are likely the odds.

Instead of a divorce can we just see other states?

Sometimes you start a conversation about divorce so we remember why we are together, and why it is worth staying together.

Realistically, we are already seeing it, a national divorce that is. Blue states are losing population and red states are gaining population. The bad part about this is many of the people are taking their dumbass voting ideas with them and they pose the real possibility of turning the places they move to into the same shitholes they left. The problem for blue states is they are losing tax base and employment. It should be noted here that the only good news on the employment front is coming from red states. More population always means more jobs and declining population always means less jobs. But it also means businesses have to move to areas with people to work if they want to see things made and profit to happen. It isn't a perfect balance though but as people move to red areas for the freedom and lower taxes the businesses will follow.

You just have to look at California to see the reality of the situation. Hollyweird was always the center of the movie industry but they have strangled the goose that lays the golden eggs and movies are now being made in areas that don't tax the snot out of movies. The same is happening in tech.

And in spite of what elections show, I don't think people are really as left as the propaganda says they are. There are 3 kinds of people, those that believe they can be the opposite sex they have the parts for, those who believe they are nucking futs and are willing to say so, and then those who think they are nuts but are afraid to say so. I am in the group which is willing to say they are nuts.

Two things.

The Committee of 300 . There is a book, and Amazon indicates they have it. The divorce concept is just a shiny diversion.

The confederacy of states ended with the Civil War. Bruce Catton explains it well in Glory Road.

On a sidebar, if you weren’t married I would be chasing you, I love the way your mind works…

It is a typical 21st century American idea to divorce over even the smallest disagreement. Between our natural inclination to avoid conflict, the Elite totalitarian propaganda that is constantly aimed at us, and the media’s abdication of any role as an objective champion of the common man, we have become convinced that the divide between us is impossible to narrow.

Divorce rarely solves a relationship issue. It simply puts distance between the two parties. It’s a rare divorce where both parties acknowledge their own contribution to the conflicts and move forward independently or together changed by their acknowledgement.

In my estimation there is simply TOO MUCH communication going on and no reflection or problem solving directed toward all the communication. Every activist group and drama queen is vying for public attention. Meanwhile we’ve told the last several generations (and equipped them) to share their feelings (“better out than in”, Shrek), without a plan (or qualified professionals) for addressing all the sewage that we encouraged them to share with us.

Burned out by all this communication, people are just tuning it all out (the Elite, the Media, the Activists, the nut jobs, etc.) and, most importantly, avoiding communicating on a relationship level with our community, our neighbors, our family, etc. Worsening matters, we’ve developed this idea that there is a binary solution to every problem. Meanwhile our ability to problem solve and practice diplomacy/ patience/compassion has entropied from lack of use. For example, I think you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone outside DC, Media, and DC puppets who cares much about whatever is happening in Ukraine. For sure, folks probably think it’s sad but “lots of things are sad”. Same goes for the sad situation of the East Palestine community, lots of thoughts and prayers but “someone else (government, Trump, etc.) will take care of it.” Fentanyl/Drugs = same issue.

Typically when things fall apart like this, a galvanizing event pulls the society together. Our “betters” have clearly tried this - Abortion pins, Ukraine Pins, Evil Russians, Racism, pronouns, etc. but they’re too stupid or petty to pull it off. So we’ll have to wait. The US has made so many enemies over the last few decades that I fear we won’t have to wait long.

It isn't a National Divorce that's needed... It's a National Cleansing ... and I am not in any way suggesting that the cleansing be accomplished by means of the ballot box... We already know how futile that mechanism is. Time to get ugly.

The chances of a random person being a MEAN person is zero. Mathematics has a corollary: the chances of a random sample of a normally distributed continuous variable (bell curve) having a value equal to the mean is zero.

My dad is planning on building a chicken coop and a mobile chicken run that he can drag around and have them pick and peck various parts of the pastures. Any recommendations for starting that sort of thing? I'd be interested to read your "Basics of Raising This Animal at Home" thoughts for your various beasties.

I think your example of the two options is a false dichotomy. I can very much envision a separate leftist nation having drag time story hour as core curriculum but the Handmaid's Tale scenario in a right controlled nation is pure leftist fantasy horror. The left is actually enacting their crazy vision wherever they can now. Most sane conservative men want a partner, not a slave (or a master like leftist men prefer).

The idea that both sides are needed because conservatives are rooted in tradition and abhor change and leftists have all these great novel ideas needed for a society to progress is rubbish. Conservatives love novel ideas if they are good ideas. Sometimes they have to be convinced that a novel ideas is a good idea but generally don't find a need to fix things that aren't broken. The washing machine was invented in a white male dominated society in which women were mostly responsible for clothes washing. There was no good reason for those stodgy white traditionalist chauvinist woman hating men to spend their hard earned money on washing machines and advance that novel idea thought up by another white chauvanist woman hating man. Perhaps they were moved by love for their wives or convinced by the feminine persuasions of their spouses but society progressed either way without the need for leftist ideologies.

A nation run by the right would realistically only shift the Overton Window back to where it was about 70 years ago. It would be like the 1950s only with Iphones, more women in the workforce, and less child molestation in the Catholic Church.

Leftists view everything as broken/racist/offensive and feel the need to "fix" them with novel "solutions". The leftist solution to the laundry problem would have been for all the men to chop off their dicks so all could equally share in the laundry duties. Quite a novel idea, but not a very good one.

Yes, I want a divorce from those people who want me to become a eunuch and who I never really agreed to marry in the first place.

I only see that happening if Texas succeeds from the union and other states follow suit. I promise I will help liberate your neck of the woods if you end up on the blue side of the line.

First and most important: Well done all of you! Big manly air-hugs and backpatting all around!

As for homegrown/raised: Yes to the power of swears! We're polishing of our pickled root vegetables right now, man alive what a living taste compared to the storebought stuff! Same with eggs, can't even eat factory eggs - they taste of fish!

The poll: voted unviable/do not want.

Reasons:

Unviable because no-one in power benefits from it more than the current state of affairs. Also, assuming a Conservative/Progressive split (possibly with a total redrawing of state borders even), it would take less thanthree years for the Conservative states to be forced to up their military/police spending to secure their borders from all the undesirables the progressives would be using as weapons of attrition, as well as well-to-do progressives who wants to live all-white, nice and quiet, and still pretend to be liberals.

Which would mean violent conflict with progressive states, and so on and so forth fully predictable.

Also: I'd give even odds that behind the narratve of national divorce you'd find China.

17 years is impressive, no two beans. Wife and I are celebrating our 29th anniversary today (25th).

Happy anniversary!

How the animal dies seems to affect meat quality, too. I'm chowing through a stack of beef from a small producer called Le Beuf Éthique. They use a mobile slaughter apparatus in the 'home' field, limited to a small number of animals per day. No transport stress (very few slaughterhouses in France now, so long distances are common). Whether or not the effect is real, damn I love this beef.

We need to divorce ourselves from gov't by regulation. You've hit on a workable answer by considering a framework rather than specified ideology, and I think the US Const and Bill of Rights gave us a really good chance of that, with a few necessary tweeks like basic equal rights for all and the abolition of slavery, with all matters not specifically delegated to the gov't being RESERVED for the people.

Obviously our current tyrannical rule by bureaucratic diktat (regulatory), and blatant abuse of power by both of the other two branches of the gov't has derailed the entire Constitutional framework.

Fukifino how to fix this, though.
