I have been collecting newspaper articles since March 2020. I have them in a box, and I'm going to seal it up and bury it. My first printed article was on the Air Force Academy cadets who ended their lives when they were put in solitary confinement for speaking to a classmate during the initial lockdowns.

"The US Air Force Academy has eased coronavirus social-distancing restrictions after it reported back-to-back suicide deaths of two cadets, according to a report.

Some people complained that the rules made the Colorado Springs academy prison-like for the nearly 1,000 seniors who remain on the campus while others complete the year online, according to the Gazette, which obtained emails from the school." NY Post

The whole, "if we save one life," lie will never be forgotten.

My teen and I were reading an essay by E.H. Carr and the role of mindreading and other cognitive distortions historians engage in without detailed, first-person accounts from multiple people. <That's not what he said in the essay, but that's what we talked about.>

We must keep records of what covid was really like for each of us. I don't know anyone who died of it. And I only know one person who was hospitalized with covid. They got hospital-acquired covid when there for chemo. Their cancer came on suddenly after booster shot. Hmmm. They were given HCQ in September 2021. Wow. Shocking!

We live in a state where the governor wants to be king, er, US President, so his covid responses were not nearly as psycho as others. My sister lives in California. Her life has been a living hell except at church where the rules are ignored. Church is saving people there even if they don't believe in the religious message.

She's totally a CCP plant.

Also, I'm very similar as to why it took me so long to actually start writing. Switch foot, a band, has a song "Adding To The Noise". "If I'm adding to the noise, turn off this song." So much noise on social media, the internet, and until Substack clicked for me, I didn't want anything to do with adding one more syllable. But here I am. And glad you're here too.

And just today, I wrote this... Pretty similar in spirit to this great article from you.

Also, your past trauma sucks, and I'm sorry you went through it. Yeah, made you who you were in some ways, yadda yadda, but still, I mourn for the wee Guttermouth, probably living in agony and feeling alone and betrayed by the very ones who were supposed to be protecting. There aren't many wounds that cut deeper than the betrayal of those who are supposed to protect and provide the environment to flourish.

Yes!!

First, I have a fear that is greater than all the rest. And it is not that millions of people will be injured by these injections. It is not that we may have to fight for the rest of 2022 (or longer) to gain back what we so readily gave away. My number one fear is that these motherfuckers will get away with it. And that only happens if the people shrugged her shoulders, lose interest, “accept the bad with the good,” and/or want to “forgive & forget.”

As you say, abusers always want to forgive and forget. Or just forget. And socially we are primed to offer forgiveness, but that can only come with complete apology and admittance of wrongdoing on the part of the criminals.

This touches upon a secondary fear, which is deeply ingrained in the psyche of the human species. It is taken advantage of by people in the field of sales on a daily basis. If a person asks for something that they want, and you resist, and then eventually you give in, there is a moral expectation that they will express gratitude and not be greedy and demand more. So, when we consider Canada, the current resistance to giving the people what they are demanding and insisting upon, serves two purposes. The criminal elite had a small chance of success, at actually not having to relinquish the rights and freedoms they had stolen from the citizenry. But, as they’re back up plan, if they do concede to our demands, they have a very fair chance of insisting or expecting us to say thank you and go back to our lives and not ask for anything else. Why is this bad, you ask?

Because, the past two years has not simply been about pure control of mobility and employability and what is injected into our bodies. That is a teeny tiny piece of a much bigger plan. And the other plan that they have dramatically succeeded at is rating the treasury of the few remaining nations in the world that were somewhat economically secure and transferring all of that wealth into the coffers of the pharmaceutical industry, very likely the media Cabal, and the politicians being bought like dogs. We hear the statistic that the greatest movement of wealth in human history, upward of course, has taken place over the past two years. But I believe America at least, and maybe also Europeans and Canadians and the British and the Australians and New Zealanders, are all so inured to the “robber barons” of the day…that what? We continue to do nothing?

What we need, is a charge that has also never before been seen in human history, that will render the Mongol horde polite by comparison. I’m not advocating for violence, and advocating for effectiveness and success at achieving the true and necessary goal, which is to begin with our most fundamental human rights and move forward to also criminalize the globalized banking system that has intentionally been playing God for decades. But, I am very concerned that once people have regained their right to go to work, or sit down and drink a cup of coffee, or cross a border into the neighboring country, that they will stop the charge forward. Just read that sentence again! Oh, I am allowed to cross the border to the next country over! Aren’t I lucky! Duh. That’s the way it’s supposed to be.

Anyway, I love this! Again, thank you for having a stack! And I 100% relate to this little paragraph near the top of this article. When I read it, I yelled yes! In my teeny tiny little room here in the open desert, I was shouting at four white walls because that is exactly how my brain works. Good to meet another one!

Quote: It doesn’t help that, for the most part, I’m cursed with an extremely sharp and comprehensive memory, often remembering the entire script of a recent conversation or email, visual details, and so on. (I’m spectacularly shit at names, though. Go figure.)

PS - I am using voice to text, please forgive typos.

You will rarely get a full apology and if you do it won't satisfy. But you most certainly forgive without it. I am a Christian and what our Bible (which is the word of God) tells us is to forgive regardless of the other person's actions. Forgive before coming to Him in prayer. As it turns out He tells us to do that mostly for our own benefit. It enables you to let it go - for yourself. Hard to do in the beginning, but as you do it, it becomes easier. Sort of like when you offer an apology. Hard at first on the ego then easier. It is a relief. God tells us to do it for our benefit, but also so we can come to Him without the burdens of animosity and strife we allow to go on. So if it is in your power, Christian or not, it is to your benefit to find a way to forgive.

Last I heard, God didn't forgive Satan.

Expand full comment
Guttermouth's avatar

No. But it raises a very interesting theological question: what would it take for such a thing to occur? By the rules mankind lives under, it would simply call for him to confess his sins to God and ask for forgiveness.

If you believe in any notion of a cyclic universe, it'd be a neat ending to the story- the very last soul in the universe to be saved being the very first one that was damned.

(No, I'm not asserting the Bible says any of this.)

I can't top Guttermouth's fun answer but I will give the serious answer. Lite. There is one unforgivable sin to God and that is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. In Satan's case the pot decided he wanted to be the potter. We, on the other hand, are created in God's image and we are his children. I think we can extrapolate what pure love between a parent and child looks like. He not only forgives our sins when we come to him in repentance, but wipes away sin like it never happened. For our sake. Totally selfless. Otherwise we could not be His own.

But us humans - forgive someone if you can if for no other reason than to free yourself. Don't forget what was done. Don't hold the hate.

Furthermore, on my 1st reading of the Bible I've run into a hitch. In a Psalm I read the other day, it said God wiped away David's sin with Bathsheba by killing their son. Seems mighty unfair to the son, imo. It's not like he asked to be born.

Expand full comment
Raptor's avatar

Are you sure it was Ps 1? Maybe you were reading another Psalm or maybe 2Samuel? To be clear, God did not wipe away David's sin by killing his child. It was punishment for sin. And not the only punishment he received. He was shamed publicly (a fate worse than death - back then because shame is out the window now) and there was serious turmoil in his house. But law and mercy go hand in hand and repentence on David's part restored his relationship w/ God and well, Christ came thru his bloodline.

I am glad god is patient and forgiving, but I do not expect no consequences in life for what I do. None should want that.

Also about unfairness. How we see things and God sees things are often different. If you want a further explanation of this or anything else or just want to talk about the Bible, I would be happy to. But maybe not on Guttermouth's substack. Reply and I will give you a temporary email. All my best to you Mary and I am glad you are reading the Bible.

There are things I will not forgive. I have prayed to God that if he lets certain people into heaven, I would prefer not to go there. I'll be satisfied with eternal, dreamless sleep.

Expand full comment
Raptor's avatar

I understand that sentiment. I have had them myself believe me. And I have struggled obeying the command that if I have anything against anyone, go to them and resolve it before coming to Me in prayer (that is the gist of it). That is a call to sort out differences which parallels forgiveness. As I have said elsewhere, I have found some peace and reconciliation by thinking of forgiveness as an act to free myself. If I hold on to those feelings they will overwhelm me leaving me with less ability (or feelings/inclinations) to be loving and caring. For me. Everything has its own context.

No one escapes this life, this fallen life, without scars. Thankfully, we are restored to God's ideal perfection when we go to be with Him.

And that, I think, concludes Raptor Bible Vision for today. Maybe.

Some of these people have genuinely probably forgotten themselves. The behaviour doesn’t fit their idea of themselves, so the cognitive dissonance makes them forget. My mum genuinely didn’t remember an incident where she hit me around the head repeatedly when I was younger.

Agree though, that doesn’t mean they should be allowed to forget.

Expand full comment
Guttermouth's avatar

I agree, as the depth of memory is closely related to its perceived importance and relevance by the mind in question.

Beating the shit out of a little kid is qualitatively less "interesting" or traumatic than being a little kid and getting the shit beat out of you.

Caveats to that, though:

1) as I recall, these confrontations were only a few years later, in some cases;

2) these were not brief, trivial, slaps on the head or kicks in the ass; these were sometimes impressively long sessions that could have had commercial breaks.

Beyond that, yes, cognitive dissonance is likely the cause in 90%+ of "forgetfulness" by abusers or criminals.

Expand full comment
Raptor's avatar

Agree that importance plays a factor. But also when confronted even just you and the person there is still you there. At other times you may mention it in passing and they flip on the gaslight. My mom was a brilliant gaslighter. But a strange thing happened one day. My husband and I were in her livingroom and we were hashing something (I can't remember what, but it had to do with her being an asshole at that moment - I was older so I didn't brook her nonsense anymore). So within a few minutes she suddenly brought up something from when I was a kid that she had gaslit me on over the years. When I was a little kid she used to smother me in various ways to exert control thru fear. And because she was troubled and cruel. But anyway she apparently sure I had told my husband and wanted to rebut it or diminish it so she brought it up in a mocking way. Color me startled. She laid it all out blow by blow and then said she was just playing a game with me but that I was a sensitive child like she was. Sadly what I felt was vindication. I have a different view of things now 20 or so more years since. I am not sure how much such things have directly effected my life, but what I do know is that if you are waiting around for acknowledgment you have delivered to them the power over you. However you can for however long it takes you have to find a box to put it in and drop kick it into the emotional river. IMO of course.
