Very interesting read.

The word/name they write as Saetere would be written Säter in modern swedish, a word which means "clearing/pasture made in the forest far from home"; I guess twaithe would be the closest translation. Säter is a very common place-name in middle Sweden, either as the full name or as a suffix, in various forms and spellings depending on the dialect in the specific area and how it was initially transcribed to latin letters. Forms like -säter/-sätt/-sätter/-sätra/-sättra are common examples.

Whether that has anything to do with the hypothesised Saetere as one of the äsir or as an alternatvie name for Loke, well your guess is as good as mine. The äsir collected names like us moderns collects student debt almost.

Though (this is from memory - beware!) since Loke's parents' names means "dry needles" (pine and spruce needles) and "flame/spark" respectively, one could construct a plausible explanation for the connection between Säter and Saetere from the practice of using fire to create arable land out of the wid forest. Seems logical to me that you'd invoke gods that might help you burn the right way, without causing a forest fire. Slash-and-burn is called "svedjebruk" in swedish, svedja/-e meaning to scorch orburn until it's ashes, and bruk (here) means to use; "burn it so you can use it" would be the meaning of the word.

(Speaking of Ukraine, our attempts to join the Kool Kids Klub was further thwarted the other day, when kurdish activists [allegedly] hung an effigy of Erdogan outside parliament. The swedish speaker of the riksdag was to visit Turkey but was brusquely informed that he isn't welcome. And lo and behold, yesterday/today the Biden White House promised Turkey military material including fighter jets at a discount price. Whadda coinky-dink!)

Anyway, Saturday in swedish is Lördag. Lör- comes from the old word for washing oneself; löga. So it means the day you wash yourself. Rotunda, mentioned in the poem in the linked article, means the place where you hold dances: dans-rotunda.

So there's at least some plausibility in Saetere and rotunda being remnants of a tradition where you slash-and-burned new land: we still say that flames dance, don't we?

Exactly my take regarding the Loki thesis of the page.

Have you got a lot of Kurdish activists in Sweden?

Short answer: Oh H*ll yes we have! Want some?

Rant:

It's like this: in the 1970s we switched from strict migration laws to refugee-migration, preferably from the third world.

The Socialist Democrat party, being the driving force behind the change (for a lot of reasons) recruited from all such migrant groups, making sure to capture them as voters.

Fast forward, and leaving 99% of the story out since it would require a thesis paper on swedish domestic policies since 1976 to present day (20 000+ words, easily) these groups are now firmly acting as anchors and agents of their home-nation or region.

So kurds in Sweden are doing their level best to drive any wedge they can between Sweden and Turkey, since they are very afraid that Turkey and turks becoming more important to our domestic and foreign policies/politics would hurt them both here and in Turkey, Syria and Irak.

(Also, the kurds here come in two varieties: the rare fully integrated modern ones, say maybe 10% of the total, and the rest who are barely literate and still live and function on a purely clan-based level, including such things as murdering their own daughters for dating the wrong boy. Add to that them bringing their clan-based vendettas from the home country, islam, communism, tradition, real old-school racism and organised crime...)

Frankly, a lot of the time, migrant groups from Africa/MENA can only keep the peace when they have us swedes nearby to hate and blame. I've seen grandkids of greeks and turks who came here in the 1950s go at it because they've been taught to hate at home.

I'll say this for migration (not GreenCard or other legal migration) to the US: you ain't seen shit yet. If you think the reports of migrants from South/Central America misbehaving in the hotels in New York where they were placed is anything, hoo boy. Just you wait until you get a load of how some choice mid-eastern or african ehtnicities will act.

See, upuntil now the US has picked the raisins out of the migrant-streams from there. Guess what oh say Minnesota is going to look like with 200 000 sudanese (IQ about 65 or so is their normal, i.e. chronically uneducatable and unemployable by modern western standards) all gathered in one burb or hood. Or 300 000 palestinians of the lower, poorest classes. Or the utter ridiculousness that can ensue when you get one area full of hazar from Iran, another with persians from Iran and a third with iraqi arabs, alljammed up to eachother.

Trust me, even the NRA are going to want to overhaul the 2nd if you start accepting hordes from those areas.

"Rant" may not be the appropriate term to describe your well expressed extrapolation of the current immigration trends in your part of the world. My cousin on the UK, who operates a transport firm, says there are areas in many European (and British!), cities where it is no longer safe to make deliveries. Or even to drive through. The same is very much true of many of the "urban shit holes" on this side of the pond!

Police here started to advise motorists to not stop to help people who seems to have run out of gas, had a flat tire and so on.

In the 1990s.

Every time the police warned people not to do that, the media-political-entertaintment hydra attacked them, claiming they were racists.

Despite the police never ever mentioning anything about ethnicity in their warnings. Sometimes, denial is all the confirmation you need, eh?

And of course, most court proceedings here are public records so to the utter surprise of nobody, of the few cases road pirates were actually charged and tried, they were non-white non-swedes 100% of the time.

A popular trick was to have a car half-way down the ditch by the road, right before an overpass or viaduct or something like that with an older woman standing next to it, waving at passing traffic.

If someone stopped, as soon as the stepped out of the car they were surrounded by a group of men who had been hiding, and "encouraged" to buy "gold" from them.

The ethnicity in question rhymes with "tipsy".

This weeks big row here has been about something completely different though. More after the break. (cue insipid music jingle)

And we're back!

(Had to nip out with the dogs, the young one was doing the "Look at my asshole"-dance she does when she needs to take a dump.)

Anyway. The big row this week apart from Erdogan being hanged in effigy was that the leader of the Christian Democrats wore a winter jacket when visiting Kiruna and the Ice Hotel. All our feminist media and our most feminist politicians have spent two days now attacking her for how she chooses to dress. It's par for the course: she's young, blonde, white, a mother, hard-working, good-looking, christian and won't back down from their bullying. They've been going after her for years now, as if she was Carrie White.

But what topped it was that an old law from the 1950s has been removed. The "dance permit" law.

Yep, you read that right. In Sweden until Friday the 13th if you owned a restaurant or a pub or hosted a wedding or other big get-together, you needed a permit from the local authorities if there was to be dancing. And if guests wanted to dance spontaneously, you had to stop them.

Otherwise, the pub-owner (f.e.) could lose their alcohol-license, and get a hefty fine.

So naturally, all our lefties has been out in force decrying how wrong it is of our new governement to remove this law.

You want to know where your Democrats and liberals and progressives and efties wants to steer you? "Look what's happening in Sweden" as Trump said.

Thank you, and good night!

"young, blonde, white, a mother, hard-working, good-looking, christian" appears to check most of the boxes 'the left' has decreed constitute grounds for cancellation, un-personing, or simple old fashioned hatred.

Most of the "progressives" one observes demonstrating for the "cause de jour" might, possibly, hit "young, or blonde"; but they have declared motherhood an anathema, and wouldn't recognize hard work if it bit them on their collective asses. Few of the screaming idiots could EVER be considered "good-looking". And "christian" is a belief system that, for many, does NOT conform with the holy narrative of the day. Whatever that is. (Which, of course, can never be tolerated).

Is it possible that simple envy is the basis of modern "progressivism?"

Säterist, if you mean someone who clears new land to live and grow crops on would be svedjebrukare, if slash-and-burn techniques were to be used (which would get the constabulary and the fire department and some other agencies in a right tissy).

Oh! I'm dumb, you mean satire! That would be a very close pronounciation. Don't think I'm good enough for satire, to be honest.

Hehe, slash-and-burn writing technique, that really fits with satire. /thumbs up/

"President" Biden's downfall feels as artificially manufactured as his electoral "victory". Helpful, all these scandals (such as FTX) coming to light immediately after the midterms. Though, it doesn't seem like a very long term strategy to repeatedly choke slam your voters while screaming racist at your opposition, but some people keep voting for those fucking vampires so what an you do? Watching Peter Doocy grill the old curmudgeon was basically elder abuse, but anyone who really knows Biden the will agree any suffering he endures is thoroughly deserved, if not about 20 years too late.
